EDITORIAL
It is indeed a great pleasure to present the first issue of The ARP Newsletter which would chronicle and highlight the achievers and achievements of the Students and Staff of commerce Department of the New College during Academic Year 2017-18.
The ARP is an innovative scheme conceived & developed by the staff members of the commerce department to motivate it’s students to become achievers in whatever they are talented at and become useful citizens to the country. It is a well Structured Motivational program aimed at creating a healthy competition among the students to achieve in whatever they are talented in, through the award of predetermined reward points for every achievement. Students compete among themselves to maximize their respective reward points by trying to excel and achieve in Academic and Co-curricular activities, Extra Curricular activities and to contribute to the Society by participating in activities useful to society. This is consistent with the motto of the parent body of the THE NEW COLLEGE – MEASI-awake, arise and achieve.
The software for the ARP scheme has been developed by Er. Shahul Hameed Jawahir B.Tech, a senior software engineer, presently working in a large multinational software organization in Chennai. The department is most thankful for the pains that he has taken for the development of the software, that too without taking any remuneration. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Mr.Jawahir. The official website of the Commerce Department “newcomm.org.com” has been designed by Er.M.S. Zainulabideen for which we are very much thankful.
A word of thanks it also due to our II year B.com Student Mr. Shaik Mukarram Ahamed for his contribution in the preparation of this Newsletter.
This newsletter would also inform the students about avenues where they can score Reward Points.

Achievement Recognition Program (ARP): An Overview
PG & Research Department of Commerce is proud to introduce an innovative scheme to bring out the latent talent of its students in the form of initiative called ARP. This program focuses on a continuous motivation and recording of achievement of students. The present system of education gives maximum importance only to the marks obtain the university or end semester examination ignoring the overall personality of students in their final evaluation.
There is a lack of system to holistically evaluate students to unearth their latent talents.
To fill this gap, the commerce department has developed a unique motivational program which would lead to present the student as a integrated whole personality to society.
This system proposes a 3 pronged
Approach to evaluate and motivate the student
a. To excel in Academic & Co-Curricular activities
b. To win in extracurricular activities such as Quiz, debates, Sports etc.,
c. To involve themselves in participating in activities useful to the Society.
For Academic & Co-curricular Achievements the ARP motivates a student to score 75% & above marks in the End Semester Exams, encourages students to involve themselves in Research Activities & Secure 90% or more Attendance in Classes.
The ARP scheme is also to encourage the students to take part in Extra-Curricular activities and Win in Quiz, Debating or whatever activities they are talented at.
To motivate students to be useful to society, the ARP scheme encourages students to take part in activities useful to society such as Tree Plantation Initiatives, Blood Donation, providing education for the deprived and etc.
